TO Live has an exciting full-time opportunity in its Programming Department in the role of Senior Producer.

The Programming Department of TO Live, headed by the Vice-President of Programming is responsible for securing, servicing, and delivering TO Live’s rental business including corporate and private events, education and engagement, and TO Live Presents programming.

The Senior Producer reports to the Director of Programming and works closely with the VP of Programming, Director of Production, the Marketing & Communications and Ticketing Services Departments.

The Senior Producer will be the most experienced in a team of three Producers reporting to the Director.  The Producers are focused on TO Live Presents programming and are responsible for budgeting, contracting, planning, scheduling and executing events on time and on budget.

TO Live Presents seasons include a wide range of events across all disciplines in its theatres ranging in size from 200 to over 3,000 seating capacity.  In addition to programming work for the seven main stages in its three venues, TO Live is also committed to activating its public and gallery spaces.

ACTIVITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop a deep understanding of each of the artists and projects for which the Senior Producer is responsible.
  • Create and prepare programming budgets for review with individual estimates for each department.
  • Ensure all budgets include appropriate forecasting and budget modifications as required.
  • Prepare and review contracts for all TO Live Presentations for execution by the Vice-President of Programming and the President and CEO.
  • Continually update forecasts to budgets with actuals as they become known, escalating budget issues appropriately as needed.
  • Create financial reporting showing the original budget and each program’s actual expenditures.
  • Control expenses and maximize revenues. Adhere to the requirements of TO Live’s Finance Policies.
  • Prepare budgets for government grants and other development needs in consultation with the Development department.
  • Monitors daily the activities and work schedules of the venues.
  • Liaises between production, administration and visiting artists, including co-production and co-presentation partners.
  • Oversees the care and coordination of visiting artists with administrative staff and stage management.
  • Reconciles and negotiates final settlement with co-producers and presented companies.
  • Contracts artists and directors under terms and conditions of the Canadian Theatre Agreements and associated agreements.
  • Perform other duties and projects as assigned.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

  • Minimum seven to ten years of cultural program management and/or financial administration experience in the music, performance arts and/or special event sectors.
  • Experience in producing new work.
  • Practical working knowledge and experience in event, stage and production management preferably in a unionized environment.
  • Experience in drafting contracts and strong negotiating skills.
  • Thorough understanding and preparation of program budgeting.
  • Financially responsible with excellent financial acumen.
  • Strong communication, written and interpersonal skills.
  • Attention to detail and highly organized.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Flexibility in hours and schedules and includes work on nights and weekends as required.
  • Lack of natural light in workplace.
  • Travel between TO Live venues as required.

Salary Range: $65,000 – $70,000
