TAPA seeks a dynamic, articulate, and optimistic individual to be its new Executive Director.   This individual will hold a core belief in collaborative work and see themselves as a leader as well as supporter and connector of the TAPA team, board(s) and membership.  While bringing specific ideas, vision and energy to the role, they also embrace collective responsibility in service to the TAPA theatre, dance and opera members, to benefit the performing arts ecology in Toronto.  They will prioritize communication, including listening as critical to the role, and have a passion for training and mentoring others.  A deep knowledge of the performing arts industry in Toronto is essential. 

 

The Executive Director will:

  • Develop and implement TAPA organizational strategy and policies in collaboration with the staff and board to deliver the organization’s programmatic vision.
  • Attract partnerships and work effectively with other arts leaders and organizations to expand the programs and reach of TAPA into the performing arts community.
  • Enable the Boards of Directors of TAPA and PAIS (Performing Arts Information Services) to successfully fulfill their governance and fiduciary responsibility by providing accurate, timely, comprehensive, and insightful operational, financial and business risk information.
  • Work closely with the Finance Committee to set fundraising targets, track and review cash flow and budgets, shared in full transparency at monthly meetings.
  • Produce annual ARTS DAY AT THE CITY.
  • Oversee production of the annual Dora Mavor Moore Awards.
  • Establish strong relationships with political and public service leadership at all levels of government.
  • Lead by example to ensure healthy, positive and supportive work environment grounded in principles of equity and inclusion. 
  •  Actively contribute to all policies and procedures supporting equity and inclusion, health and safety, accessibility, and environmental sustainability.
  • Provide general oversight and direction for staff managers who take responsibility for the operations of TAPA including: Development, Communications, and Operations.
  • Manage all general, administrative operations, and programming services necessary and appropriate to the operation of PAIS, including the annual Dora Mavor Moore Awards, all Ancillary Awards as well as approve and oversee all cash prizes associated with the DMM Awards.
  • The Executive Director also oversees the operation of B Street Arts Hub, the new home of TAPA, and works in partnership with fellow B Street tenant, B Street Collaborative on initiatives with the joint mission of empowering Toronto artists with the space and facilities they need to thrive.

TAPA is a leading not-for-profit arts service organization that serves 119 professional theatre, dance and opera companies in the city of Toronto.  TAPA is in a unique position in that it represents three separate disciplines, and the membership reflect a spectrum of diverse artistic and cultural practices explored and presented on Toronto stages.  The scope of work on Toronto stages is unparalleled, and is recognized every year in the Dora Mavor Moore Awards, Canada’s largest and oldest professional theatre, dance and opera award show produced by TAPA.  Additional programs and services include hipTIX, offering $10 tickets to students between the ages of 14 and 29; the TAPA TRADE SERIES, TAPA RBC Emerging Artists Mentorship Program – TREAM, the Ray Ferris Innovation and Sustainability Grant, and the Travel Retreat Initiatives Program – TRIP.
