Theatre Gargantua’s Artistic Internship Program provides an opportunity for emerging artists to expand their skills and experience through observing and participating in Theatre Gargantua’s creative cycle.

Theatre Gargantua is seeking two emerging artists who are committed to pursuing a career in the performing arts. This paid program is designed to provide an opportunity for emerging artists to expand their skills and experience through observing and participating in Theatre Gargantua’s artistic creation cycle. Specifically, participants will attend all rehearsal and creative meetings while simultaneously assisting in areas of production (set, lighting, costumes, stage management, and director assistance). Through this program, interns are mentored by our professional artists, helping them develop new skills for their future artistic endeavours.

The program will begin in late summer/early fall and continues through performances of premiere of our latest cycle of work in the fall. The bulk of the internship will occur during the rehearsal/pre-production and performances slated between September 16 – November 19th.

Successful applicants will have a background in theatre and an interest in multi-disciplinary work and/or the collaborative creation process. Applicants should be prepared to make a commitment to the full length of the project, including attendance at all rehearsals, performances, and all creative meetings.

Our new cycle of work Dissonant Species will use a musical metaphor to explore the sometimes harmonious but often dissonant nature of how we interact as a species. Harmony and discord become allegories for the inevitable dissonances that occur between people with whom we have to share space and will be used to explore the complexities and nuances of human conflict.

Term: September 16 – November 19 (some weekend and evening hours required)

Rehearsals begin September 25

Theatre Gargantua encourages all applications from equity-deserving groups, including those who identify as Indigenous, Black, People of Colour, Transgender, Nonbinary, Queer, Disabled and intersections of those identities.

Applications should include a resume and cover letter detailing their experiences and desire to participate in the program to be submitted by email to jacquie@theatregargantua.ca. Please include “Artistic Intern 2024 – your name” in the subject line. While we thank everyone for their interest and efforts, only shortlisted candidates for interviews will be contacted.
