Direct Reports: Audiences Services and Administrative Manager

Compensation:  $60,000-$70,000 + Health and Dental Benefits Plan After 3 months

Tasks and Responsibilities: 

Finance & Accounting

  • Manage all accounting functions, including accounts payable/receivable, journals, payroll, and financial statement preparation.
  • Oversee investments, cash flow, and bank loans in conjunction with the Executive Director.
  • Produce financial reports for various stakeholders, including the annual audit, AGM, and government grants.
  • Conduct cash flow forecasts and prepare and track the operating budget.
  • Administer payrolls, ensuring compliance with government and union requirements.
  • Manage government reporting, insurance, employee benefits, and banking documents.
  • Engage in Finance and Audit Committee activities.
  • Review and manage contracts with key partners.
  • Oversee audit preparation and liaise with auditors.

Office Administration

  • Manage board relationships…
  • Manage day-to-day office operations, including filing systems and computer hardware/software.
  • Supervise the Audiences Services and Administrative Manager in overseeing petty cash, and office key control, office security, telephone systems and office space maintenance

Human Resources

  • Handle staff and artist payrolls as per union agreements.
  • Prepare employment contracts and assist in recruitment and hiring processes.
  • Manage staff benefits, vacations, and absences.

Other Duties

  • Attend performances and events, representing Opera Atelier.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Education: Post-secondary education in Accounting and Finance or related discipline. CPA designation,  or designation in process preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum 5 years in a similar role, preferably in a not-for-profit organization. Background in performing arts beneficial.
  • Skills: 
    • Proficiency in Xero or Quickbooks, Microsoft Office suite, and general IT. 
    • Strong time management, project management, and negotiation skills. 
    • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team, managing change creatively.

Working Conditions

  • Irregular work hours. Evenings, weekends and holidays can be required 
  • Office work is performed at a computer
  • Fast-paced environment where direction can pivot quickly
  • High pressure deadlines
  • Ability to work in a creative, highly artistic environment with a focus on safety, budget and practical considerations

Our office is in a heritage building, and as such faces some accessibility challenges, including at least one staircase without an elevator to access the same floor.
