TAPA is continuing our municipal advocacy focus on the upcoming 2024 City of Toronto budget. In follow up to the 12th Annual Arts Day at the City (November 2023) and recent budget deputation (January 2024), we are launching a timely letter campaign.

Premise:
At the City of Toronto budget announcement in Scarborough last week, Mayor Chow announced city council will receive $8 million to allocate as it sees fit in the 2024 budget. TAPA is advocating to the City of Toronto for Mayor Chow to honour her commitment to increase the budget to the Toronto Arts Council (TAC) by $2 million in 2024.

TAPA sent our official request letter to all Toronto city councillors on February 6, 2024 (scroll down to read the letter). The time to support arts & culture is now.

Call to Action:
Please support our appeal to Toronto city councillors by sending your own letter requesting a financial increase to the Toronto Arts Council. We have made it easy to show your support and are working in alignment with the TAC! Simply download and customize the letter template (available below) from the TAC and send it to your city councillor. We have also included the infographic from the 12th Annual Arts Day at the City for you to reference and include if you wish.

By increasing funding to the TAC by $2 million annually for the next five years we are also supporting equity and opening the door for the next generation of arts leaders.

Thank you for your participation and engagement. Together we are stronger.
