ABOUT THE PROJECT: International Choreographic Interlink – Toronto/Taipei
After a first encounter in Japan at the Tokyo Performing Arts Meeting in February of 2020, a group of Toronto and Taiwanese-based artists and producers began meeting virtually over the pandemic. The regular exchange enabled relationships that manifested a series of activities including:
- Road-trip, a conversation – an online sharing (supported by CanAsian Dance Festival, May 2022)
- A creative residency exchange for 2+ weeks each, where the Taiwanese artists visited and shared their practices in Ontario, and vice versa with the Canadians visiting Taiwan (August and Oct/Nov 2023 respectively)
- Documentary film creations of visits, gatherings, presentations, resulting conversations, and reflections and co-creation of website https://ici-ttlink.space (ongoing)
OVERVIEW OF RESPONSIBILITIES
This position will support International Choreographic Interlink – Toronto/Taipei, through the presentation of three works by visiting Taiwanese artists and producer, as well as outreach in the form of a workshop series offered in conjunction with the presentations. The candidate will:
- Offer administrative, producing, and hosting support for the collaborative international exchange project with visiting Taiwanese artists to Toronto
- Coordinate scheduling of events and travel itineraries
- Conduct project management of various events that could range from formal showing and informal sharings, meet and greets, open workshops, touring and visiting spaces, etc.
- Assist in producing and coordinating public presentations and outreach in collaboration with SummerWorks, Dreamwalker Dance and adelheid
- Assist with communications between all artists and ensure that plans, details, and locations are clearly communicated and understood
- Attend meetings to check in and provide updates, including virtual meetings with Taiwanese artists and producer
- Act as first point of contact between all collaborators, including Toronto host organizations and Taiwanese producer; directly reporting to adelheid
- May involve travelling within Toronto and within 450km in Ontario
ELIGIBILITY
This position is funded through the Canada Summer Jobs program. To be eligible for this job, you must:
- be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment
- be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment
- have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations
QUALIFICATIONS
- Strong administrative capacity; previous administration experience is an asset
- Superb attention to detail
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Excellent organizational and multitasking skills
- An interest in contemporary dance/performance and international cultural relationships/exchange
- An understanding of local performing arts sector is an asset
- Proficiency and/or familiarity with project management software, including Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, Airtable, and Slack
- A valid G license is an asset
- Fluency in Mandarin is an asset
