Tech Up! Setting Up an Event Space

Putting up an event/performance at a found space? Whether you’re in a classroom or outdoors, a simple tech setup adds amazing texture to your event! Join our special guests Carley Melvin and Michael Wanless to play with event technology and gain hands-on experience learning how to transform your space! We’ll learn about building a simply setup with minimum budget, and you’d be amazed by the changes it can bring!

 

Carley Melvin (she/her)
Carley Melvin is a Toronto-based Technical Theatre Freelancer, originally from New Brunswick. She graduated from the Technical Production for the Performing Arts Industry Program at Sheridan College in 2022 where she specialized in Lighting, Carpentry and Technical management. Carley is currently the Interim Technical Director at Tarragon Theatre. Still, she has recently worked as a Technical Director, Scenic Carpenter, Technician, Production Assistant and Lighting Designer for some smaller Toronto Theatre companies including Shakespeare in the Ruff. Her favourite part of this work is bringing people together through theatre! She also loves painting and travelling 🙂

Michael Wanless (they/them)

Michael is a sound designer and theatre artist based in Tkaronto. They are a graduate of the PDTA program at the National Theatre School of Canada, and have worked professionally as a sound designer since 2013. Their recent projects include Making Spirits Brighter with Globe Theatre and Joys and Splendors with Winterbird Arts, as well as producing and sound designing the narrative podcast The Rest is Electric. Their interests are wide ranging, but of particular interest to them are queer stories as well as stories from other marginalized and under-served communities.
