Leighton Alexander Williams was born in Kingston, Jamaica. He is the older brother of two children born by his nurse mother, Sharon, and his UPS delivery father, Seymour. Leighton’s parents immigrated from Jamaica in 1995, when he was only 3 years of age. He grew up in North York, and his mother enrolled him in Joyce Public School of music, with hopes of him becoming a pianist. However, in Grade 2, Leighton caught the acting bug when he was cast in the school musical “A Bugz Life”, and this later festered into a desire to become an educator. After graduating from high school, Leighton enrolled at York University, intent on a career in teaching Drama and English. However, he was strongly urged to audition for the Acting Conservatory at the end of his freshman year, and after getting into the exclusive program, he took the lunge into the acting world. Leighton booked his first paid professional role a month after graduating from post-secondary; he was cast in Obsidian Theatre Company’s staged reading of “A Drum Major’s Instinct”. Since then, he has been working mostly in Theatre, and commercials, with a recent switch to film and television. Leighton is one of the co-founders of BDB Productions inc, and has been producing controversial, thought-provoking work that has been well received.
