Auditions for Brown Eyes: a New Musical 
Book, Lyrics and Music by Saccha Dennis and Alicia Richardson

Brown Eyes is both an adaptation and response to Ragtime the musical. Our show is a love story wrapped-up in a futuristic sci-fi/thriller with a few laughs along the way (geez, say that five times fast). We are in a future dystopia in 2070. Sarah is an aspiring DJ navigating a dystopian future country where Black folks (and other people of colour) mysteriously go missing. She just might find an escape with the help of her lover, J-Dub, a music producer.
Brown Eyes pays homage to Black music throughout the ages: Trap, Hip-Hop, Negro Spirituals, House (a quasi Trip-Hop), West African instrumentation, and Ragtime. We ain’t never seen no musical with all that up in da mix. So why not make one?
We are currently casting for:
ENSEMBLE [Open ethnicity, all genders, all ages] members of the worker “bee hive” / wealthy attendees of the Poverty Ball / Back up Dancers for Hoodini / Etc. Singing range: Mezzo or Soprano 
 
ENSEMBLE [Open ethnicity, all genders, all ages] members of the worker “bee hive” / wealthy attendees of the Poverty Ball / Back up Dancers for Hoodini / Etc. Singing range: Baritone or Tenor 

HOODINI aka LIL’ L [Middle Eastern  / North African (MENA), Male, early 30’s] He started rapping and went viral; now he’s famous and headlines shows. He’s very slick, a bit of a trickster, raps in a double-speak but wiser than he lets on. We encourage Arabic speakers. Singing range: Baritone / Tenor 

OLDER BROTHER (Open Ethnicity, Male, late 20’s) an ethical cyber hacker, very ¡Viva la Revolución! He’s passionate and also cheeky–a wicked sense of humor. He fights hard for what he believes in. Singing range: Tenor

Audition Dates and Times:
Thursday May 23rd and Friday, May 24th
10am – 3pm at Wychwood Barns 621 Christie Street
Please prepare 24 bars of an R&B, Soul, or Pop song that shows off your singing range AND 24 bars of a rap song
We will have an accompanist so please bring sheet music.
Workshop Dates and Times:
A two week workshop of the show will be held December 2 – 6 & December 9 – 13
Monday – Friday
10am – 5pm in Toronto
Compensation:
$716/week + HST (if applicable)
