Job Description / Duties

Salary:
$20-$25 per hour, dependent on final job details and experience.

Hours & Dates:
Starting late May. Part-time in late May and June. Increasing to full-time July & August, requires being on-site in Kingston. Part-time early September for wrap-up. Evenings and weekends are required during the festival dates.

Position Summary:
The Technical Director is responsible for the procuring and management of The Kick & Push Festival’s technical requirements. As well, they oversee a team of assistant technical director positions, and work with artists to fulfill the technical needs of all Festival productions.

Key Relationships:

  • Contact with artists, and venues.
  • Reports to the Artistic Producer.
  • Works alongside the Production Manager.
  • Supervises summer hires.
  • Constant contact with other staff positions.

Responsibilities:

  • Keeping an inventory of the theatre’s technical supplies.
  • In conjunction with the Production Manager, determining the necessary technical supports, such as lighting, sound, staging, and special needs necessary for events and performances presented at the facility in advance of production dates.
  • Overseeing and assisting productions during the load-in/load-out process.
  • Managing a team of assistant technical directors.
  • Acting as the last line of defense for technical problems.
  • Advising artists on feasibility, cost, and equipment capabilities.
  • Setting and enforcing safe-use guidelines for equipment.
  • Supervises and assists with set and stage construction and management.
  • Participating in daily meetings during the week.
  • Contributing to the overall success of the festival by accomplishing related tasks as needed.


Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess experience in project management and technical theatre equipment, strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills, a willingness to take on diverse tasks, ability to safely lift up to 50 lbs, and availability to work evenings and weekends when required. A valid Ontario G Driver’s License, a vehicle, boating license, and fluency in French are considered advantageous.

The Kick & Push Festival is an annual innovative performance festival run by the Kingston Theatre Alliance that takes place in Kingston, Ontario.
